Land Steward, Darrell Jones came across this cool caterpillar the other day. With the help of fellow Land Steward Ashley Goncalves, they identified it as the spiny oak slug caterpillar (Euclea delphinii).

Yesterday a team of volunteers from the Raritan Valley Road Runners, Rutgers Outdoors Club and Student chapter of the Wildlife Society came out on a humid morning to carry in a huge stack of lumber a 1/3 of a mile into the woods.  The lumber is to build a bridge and boardwalk on a new trail that is under construction in the western expanses of the EcoPreserve.  There were a lot of sore shoulders and tired bodies by the end…

New Bench

The Rutgers Student Chapter of the Wildlife Society installed a new bench in the heart of the EcoPreserve near the “falls” on Buell Brook.  The metal stanchion was purchased by the club and the black locust lumber donated by the Kontos family.  So the next time you are out in the EcoPreserve stop for a rest and take in the wonderful view and soundscape.
