Eastern Red-Backed Salamander Plethodon cinereus

This salamander has two color morphs, seen below: the “redback” and the “leadback”

  • Redback morph can have a red, orange, or light brown stripe on the back
  • Leadback morph has a dark grey or black back
  • The underside of either morph is speckled black and white, like salt and pepper

Northern Dusky Salamander Desmognathus fuscus

  • 2.5″ – 4.5″ long
  • Dark to light grey with black flecks
  • Hind legs noticeably stouter than front legs

Northern Two-Lined Salamander Eurycea bislineata

  • 2.5″ – 4.5″ long
  • Yellowish to brownish, with two dark lines running down the back from the eyes, and dark speckling on the back
